Study On Satisfaction And Response Of Farmers Lavatories Reformation In Rural Areas Of Tai'an City

The rural Lavatories reformation plays has played a significant role in improving the rural living environment and promoting the rural economic development.Shandong Province has been selected as the pilot province for national rural harmless sanitary Lavatories reformation.The achievements made by Shandong Province during this process will be used for reference by other provinces and cities in China.A corresponding survey in this dissertation has been made to gain the responses of farmers about the Lavatories reformation and the user satisfaction after the lavatories reformation.This includes gaining views on the construction,usage and management,as well as maintenance situation of rural sanitary lavatories in Taian City.This should lead to analyses of the various problems and influencing factors,as well as any reasonable suggestions put forward to provide references for the specific rural lavatories reformation and improve the living environment for rural residents.In Taian City,the corresponding rural Lavatories reformation survey was made for 6villages;360 farmer households in the Daiyue District(Taian City),Xintai City and Ningyang County,according to the primary type of transformed household Lavatories,the regional economic development situation and the geographic and climatic environment etc.This covered 180 farmer households involved in the Lavatories reformation and 180 households that are not involved.Various field survey information mainly included the householder features,family features,house features,the policy understanding situation and the use experience,and such information has been confirmed without errors on the spot for further statistical analysis.We drew following conclusions.Farmers' awareness of toilet reform and demand for toilet functions influence their response to the practice of toilet reform.Also,the policy's publicity and integrality,family members' education background determine farmers' awareness of toilet reform and will further affect their behavioral response as their responses vary based on different demands for toilet functions.In addition,farmers pay few attention to the ecological benefit and environmental protection benefit of sanitary toilets while focusing on the health benefit and convenience of use.Various functions of traditional latrine pits have greater impact on farmers' response to the toilet reform including the collection of farm manures,the storage of sundries and the cultivation of livestock because farmers' occupation and family income are closely related to the two functions of traditional latrine pits.When farmers are engaged in agriculture,they have higher demand for the two functions.Yet,if the crop planting area exceed one mu,such demand will decline gradually.Similarly,farmers with lower family income have stronger demand for the two functions.When the per-capita income increases(exceeding RMB 5000 Yuan),such demand will decline as well.If sanitary toilets are not applied to store sundries and cultivate livestock,higher satisfaction can be achieved.Correspondingly,poor continuity of policies,unpunctual follow-up maintenance and repairing exert certain impact on farmers' satisfaction with the toilet reform.
