In the context of economic globalization, international trade is an important way to promote the prosperity and development of the world economy. As one of the strategic materials, copper and its industrial chain products are an important part of Global trade, providing a solid material basis for the development of the world economy. For a long time, material supply and international trade have been the key issues concerned by governments and academic circles. At the same time, the global copper import and export trade has formed a complex system. Therefore, this paper aims to study the copper international trade system,so as to quantitatively analyze the capital and material flow in the copper international trade. This paper selects the trade data of the whole copper industry chain of the United Nations Statistics Division(UN COMTRADE)from 2007 to 2018,and constructs the global trade flow network model by using the complex network method combined with material flow analysis.First of all,the structure and composition of the copper industry chain are combed and defined.Copper is divided into upstream, midstream and downstream according to its life cycle and use.Secondly, the paper analyzes the international trade pattern and evolution characteristics of copper industry chain by selecting the value of trade in the international trade of copper industry chain. This paper analyzes the trade scale, trade role, and trade community by using four indexes: the in-degree and out-degree,the incoming strength and outgoing strength, between centrality, eigenvector centrality and network density. The results show that the vast majority of the world has participated in the international trade of copper, and the trading countries are more and more inclined to trade with multiple countries. The global trade relationship shows an increasing trend, but on the contrary, the overall trade amount shows a downward trend in recent years. In addition, the import capacity, export capacity, transit capacity and indirect influence of the upstream, middle and downstream countries are evaluated and analyzed respectively. It is found that Chile,Peru,China,Germany, the United States and other countries play an important role in the international trade of copper.Thirdly, the paper selects the data of trade volume in the international trade of copper industry chain to analyze the material flow of copper trade and the national net import from the perspective of the whole industry chain. The results show that the world copper trade is highly concentrated in a few countries. The export countries are mainly resource-endowed countries, including Chile,Peru,Zambia, and the United States. The main import countries are China,Japan,India,Germany and other countries with more developed industries. The world’s copper resources mainly flow from South America to Asia and Europe. Finally, based on the above research, the paper makes a comparative analysis of the capital flow and material flow in the international trade of copper industry chain, and finds that they are consistent and different at the same time, and there are also the phenomena of "large volume but small amount" and "large amount small volume ",as well as the phenomenon of "preferential trade".In addition,we conclude that economic scale, geographical distance, population, technological level and cultural distance will affect the trade volume and trade flow between the two countries.
