The Study Of BT Company's Safety Culture Transformation

Safety culture,which is the combination of safety concept,safety awareness and safe behavior,provides safety guarantee and behavior principle for an enterprise.And safety culture keeps changing to adapt to the development of enterprises as an enterprise needs to constantly adjust its strategy and goal in this changing world.With 20,000 employees in China,BT company is one of the best foreign-owned manufacturing enterprise.BT owns a sound safety system due to long-term self-improvement in machine design and automaticity.However,for years its safety performance remains stagnant.So by exploring methods of BT's safety culture transformation,we can learn the currant station and problems of corporate culture and then find out how to solve the problems and how to improve and complete its culture,values,systems and behaviors,so that an enterprise can achieve better development.Based on the study of BT,this paper first induces the basic concept of safety culture and related theories of corporate culture transformation that contains definition,motivation and resistance,methods,principles steps.Then by doing survey and data analysis,we summarized the problems in safety culture management including employees' cognitive bias in safety culture,the divorce between safety management system and safety culture system,employee satisfaction needs to improve,un-fully played function of safety culture,short of long-term carrying out of safety culture and the reasons behind.Based on the discussion,we find out the principles and methods of BT safety culture transformation,as well as Edgar H.Schein's three-stage simplified model to reconstruct safety culture on performance management,organization adjustment and values modifying.Last but not the least,safety culture transformation also needs strong support from top management and the guarantee of all corporate resources and systems cooperation.
