Textile Design In A Cross-Cultural Perspective

Culture,in a state of constant evolution,is interpreted by and,in turn,interprets design;the process of designing harbors the potential of bringing two cultures together in a combined creative form of expression while keeping their own unique identities.Pakistan and China being in coordination for a long time there is also exchange of culture in between them.People travel one to one to understand each other's culture,few events occurred for this program “exchange of culture” is also mentioned.Cross-cultural research is a scientific method of comparative research which focuses on systematic comparisons that compares culture to culture with the employment of cross cultural design methodology;conceptualize a design that integrates both Pakistani and Chinese motifs into the new contemporary stylized design.Comparative analyses will be used to examine both traditions,to identify their specific histories and significance in order to produce a meaningful cross-cultural product design.This thesis firstly discussed textile designs and patterns printing.In this chapter I have discussed the methods for textile printing and weaving,few characteristics about textile designs patterns which include dynamic and static textile patterns.Importance of textile design and pattern is also discussed in the first chapter.The second chapter is about the culture heritage.Culture,Traditions and heritage are three basics of my thesis.Characteristics,importance and culture types are discussed in detail.There are different concepts of culture heritage and culture heritage is divided in two categories that are tangible and intangible.The third chapter is the main theme of the thesis that is cross cultural phenomena.A comparative research which focuses on systematic comparisons that compares culture to culture.Different types of researches occurred during the cross cultural phenomena is discussed.Goals of cross culture research globally occurred.Like everything in this world Cross culture has also some advantages as well as disadvantages.Few of them are discussed in detail.Fourth chapter is about the cultures used in the cross culture research;Pakistani and Chinese cultures.The history of both the culture with individual characteristics is discussed in this chapter.In the last chapter carpet design is taken as an example for a cross culture deign research scenario to discuss the design and application of textile patterns.The basics of weaving,kinds of weaving,types of printing methods and graphical method of printing are few discussion points of the chapter.Exchange of cultures creates a new vision in the field of designing that shouldn't be ignored.It makes countries closed together through which people understand the cultures values.
