Using "local materials" and "family hand-made" are the main models of traditional apparel production which contains a wealth of the local people's accumulated local ecological knowledge.The Baiku Yao people live in the subtropical karst mountain area,their apparel production is like a methold to perceive the local climate and to adapt to the local environment which is similar to the seasonal calendar of agricultural activities.Apparel production knowledge is an important part of their local ecological knowledge system.In today's society,most of the traditional apparel production patterns have been through tremendous changes,less use natural materials and hand-made,etc.On the contrary,the Baiku Yao people insist on inheriting family hand-made apparel production pattern and even get more sophisticated in the production details.The current research situation is they over-interpreted decorative meaning of apparel while the characteristics and significance of the production itself is less studied.Therefore,this thesis based on the Nandan Lihu Baiku Yao people's apparel production and focused on it's local ecological knowledge in Guangxi Province.The key point is:why today's Baiku Yao people insist on using family handmade and local materials regardless of time and economic costs,it makes the local ecological knowledge to be better inherited.The thesis focuses on the apparel makers' "emic" perception and evaluation system and comprehensively study the local apparel's producting and using experience in order to seek the social and cultural motivations of the local ecological knowledge system.The family hand-made apparel's local ecological knowledge system exists because of the local appraisal system and the appraisal field which built on the Baiku Yao people's social organization structure.This system is related to their equality and mutual assistance and meanwhile this set of social organization also vividly reflects on the Baiku Yao people's apparel production.
