Study On Influencing Factors Of American Steel Import And Chinese Countermeasure

The United States is an important market for China's steel exports.China's steel exports to the United States accounted for 17.29 % of the total steel imports in 2007.However the proportion has been decreasing after 2015,which was affected by the indirect Chinese steel exports to the world.At the same time,it will also produce a reverse demonstration effect--other countries follow the footsteps of the United States and then China's steel exports to other countries will decline.As the largest steel producer in the world,China's crude steel production capacity is still in a high-speed expansion period.The rate of China's crude steel production capacity from 2010 to 2015 reached 57.02 %.What's important,the capacity expansion is stronger than the downstream demand growth,on the contrary,the utilization rate of steel production capacity decreased.In this context,this dissertation studies the influence factors of steel imports in the United States.China should take corresponding countermeasures against the main influence factors.It not only will improve China's steel exports to the United States,but also produce a positive demonstration effect and expand China's total steel exports,which has very important strategic and practical significance.According to the relevant literature of trade influencing factors and the characteristics of American steel industry,this dissertation determines that the influencing factors of American steel import are eight factors,steel production in the United States and importing countries,GDP in the United States and importing countries,steel import price,steel consumption in the United States,steel production price index in the United States,steel related investment in the United States,steel import trade policy in the United States.According to the data of 8 independent variables,unit root and cointegration test were carried out to determine that the data did not produce pseudo-regression.Using Gravity Model analysis method,panel data analysis was carried out.Therefore,the main factor affecting steel imports in the United States is trade policy.To promote the development of trade investment,China should carry out transformation and upgrading of steel industry with core competitiveness and high value-added steel,appeal counter–system actively,expand opening to improve unity of global free trade,invest Overseasto revitalize steel export demand.
