Tangshan of Hebei Province,a heavy industry city with industrial history of over 100 years,has rich mineral resources and obvious location advantage.Iron and steel industry in Tangshan features a long history,a large scale,and rich accumulation in technology,personnel and other resources.Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China,especially since the reform and opening up of the country,considerable progress has been made in iron and steel industry in Tangshan.Not only products with superior quality were competitive in market,but also the output ranked first in the world.However,since the outbreak of Global Economic Crisis in 2008,the decline of external market demand,the supply-side reform of China and the frequent occurrence of foggy weather caused by the pollution of iron and steel industry have rendered the transformation of iron and steel industry in Tangshan a pressing issue.Thisarticlefirstly expounds the background and significance of transformative development of iron and steel industry in Tangshan.Then it defines relevant concepts of transformative development and summarizes and sorts out researches at home and abroad on the transformative development of iron and steel industry.Subsequently,from such aspects as the production and efficiency,equipment level,product structure,and restructuring,the article expounds the present situation of iron and steel industry in Tangshan,analyzes the macro environment and industry environment for the development of iron and steel industry in the city,and draws the conclusion on the strength and weakness,the opportunities and threats facing Tangshan’s iron and steel industry with a SWOT model.Last,from the perspective of enterprises and the government,the article puts forward the measures that should be taken in the transformative development of iron and steel industry in Tangshan.Emphasis that suits the paths of transformative development is,in particular,put forward for iron and steel enterprises of different scales and competitiveness.We hope the research results in this article can facilitate the real transformative development of iron and steel industry in Tangshan and shed some light for other cities in their transformative development of heavy industry.
