The drinking vessel design is a great part of China manufacturing history,which may prove the turning point in Wei,Jin,Northern and Southern Dynasties.The art was a reflection of the social turbulence.The four-hundred-year history is not so long but the most difficult to be described.By then,Qin and Han Dynasty had fallen,and glory period of Tang Dynasty had not shown.By the rising of metaphysics,the Buddhism and Taoism,the public had begun to aspire to live in freewheeling.Therefrom,the art of giant had risen and grown rapidly.The research studies on the drinking vessel in Wei,Jin,Northern and Southern Dynasties from variety of categories,which includes the archaeological excavation,museum restoration and the ancient literature.First,it states the research purpose,the significance and the historical background.Second,it researches respectively the spirit of Wei,Jin,Northern and Southern Dynasties and the relation of the spirits culture and drinking vessels.And it induces the drinking vessel category with the functions,the shape and the usage.Finally,it focuses on the manufacturing art of Wei,Jin,Northern and Southern Dynasties drinking vessels.At the first part,it comprehensively analyses the drinking vessel's shape and function based on the five typical shapes at that time.And it respectively researches the characters and evolvement course,which discusses deeply about the relevance and adaptability of the vessel structure and function.The second part,it analyses the artistic expressions of the vessel decorations and the materials.Hereinto,it classifies the decorations into five kinds of normal decorating patterns and two kinds of Sim-Animals patterns.It summarizes the relevance of the different kinds of decorating expressions and the structure matching.And the analysis of the materials art expressions is based on the porcelain color and the handicraft,which is classified and induced accordingly.And finally,it summarizes characters of the vessel decorations and the materials art expressions in Wei,Jin,Northern and Southern Dynasties.Afterwards,it also states the anecdotes about the spirits and drinking vessels in Wei,Jin,Northern and Southern Dynasties,which enhances the interests and charms at that time from the whole view.The modern drinking vessel designs are emerging in an endless stream.Therefore,this research is worthy to reference and enlightening because it studies on ancient drinking vessels esthetics and spirits of the design.At the end of the article,it summarizes the design constraints and esthetics at that time.It also states the significance of the ancient manufacturing art and the methods can be used for reference to the modern drinking vessel design.
