Despite the endless wars and frequently changing political powers, The Wei, Jin andSouthern and Northern Dynasties are the periods during which different nationalities learnedfrom each other greatly in Chinese history. The versatility of cultures resulted in a historic periodfilled by ideas and thoughts with the freedom and characteristics. The main theme of this era,openness, freedom, and creativity, had been expressed in the clothing as a very representativeway of breaking through the tradition and absorbing the essences. Thus, obviously, a study of theclothing in Wei, Jin, Southern, and Northern Dynasties, especially a systematic and targeted casestudy, is very important and essential. The Liangdang shan was created, and was very popularduring that period. And also, it is the best to reflect the social and humanity status. This articleaimed to reveal the social, cultural and historic significance of Liangdang shan by collecting andsorting through large amounts of data from a perspective of iconography, combined with history,folklore, culture, geography and other related areas.First, this article will introduce the concept, origin and characteristics of Liangdang andshirt. Then, to illustration the development and changes of Liangdang shan, this article analyzesthe emergence and the features in wearing of Liangdang shan from military dressing, casual, andritual perspectives. Further, to conclude in depth the reason of changes in Liangdang shan and toverify the representatives of Liangdagn shan of this period, it discusses the changes in socialrevolution, like ideology of population, women’s social status and aesthetics and etc., caused byintegration of nations. Finally, it discusses the impact of Liangdang shan on future generationsby longitudinal comparison of the historic and cultural connotation of Liangdang shan and otherclothes. Liangdang shan demonstrated the creativity in clothing and culture, pursuit of freedomand liberation and individuality, inclusiveness of military and casual, tolerance of Han and ethnicminorities of civilization in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties. These characteristicscoincide with the dressing culture in contemporary. The result of this study has certainsignificance to the innovation of clothing and exploration of culture..
