Research On Makeup In Wei,Jin,Southern And Northern Dynasties

Adornment is the decorator’s elaborate modeling and design of self,which not only reflects the decorator’s personality and aesthetic view,but also reflects the aesthetic and ideological culture of the Times.The period of Wei,Jin,southern and northern dynasties is regarded as a special period in which natural beauty was discovered to the outside world and man’s own beauty to the inside.As the discovery of people’s beauty,it is also typically reflected in their self-adornment,in which face makeup is a unique feature of the Times,a unique symbol of social culture and aesthetics.Firstly,this paper systematically combs the theme features and formal features of specific makeup in Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties.In the aspect of theme characteristics,this paper mainly analyzes four kinds of theme connotations commonly used in face makeup in this period: the theme of immortals expresses the desire of the upper nobility to ascend to immortality;Romantic characters reflect women’s pursuit of romantic love;Buddhist themes show people’s feelings of wanting to escape secular suffering.The theme of silkworm moth embodies the image of women solidified by feudal society.In terms of formal characteristics,color shows that people in this era are good at using bright and beautiful colors;The pattern presentation of dots,lines,flowers and birds can beautify the five senses and attract the viewer’s vision;Materials with various textures reflect the unity of practicality and aesthetics of face makeup.On this basis,this paper further analyzes the aesthetic thoughts reflected by the facial makeup in Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties.It is mainly manifested in two aspects: the symbolic meaning conveyed by face makeup symbols and the body aesthetics with both body and spirit.The aesthetic thought of the unity of subject and object is integrated in the conveying and symbolic meaning of face makeup.People convey the heart’s direction,thoughts and images through specific makeup symbols and ideas.In the body aesthetics with both form and spirit,Wei Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties had a unique body aesthetics,advocating the skin as clean as ice,the figure with clear bones and vivid eyebrows.Use Fu powder,thrush and other body-building methods to achieve its effect.Through shaving to cultivate one’s heart,and constantly beautifying from the outside to the inside,one can achieve the perfect situation of both form and spirit,and gain unlimited spiritual freedom.It shows that people in Wei and Jin Dynasties involved beauty in their own appearance,and more importantly,they realized the existence value of self-body,and they paid attention to and recognized themselves.The particularity of the face makeup culture in Wei and Jin Dynasties embodies the core of people,is an important way for people to express their ideology,is the ultimate concern for self.
