Research On Properties And Product Development Of The Fabric Made Of Akund Blended Yarns

Akund is one kind of natural cellulose fibers,which grows on the Calotropis gigantea plant.It has a hollow body and the degree of hollowness is above 90%,which are desirable features of candidates for functional textiles of this nature.It’s light and soft with a crystal luster.The large lumen with thin-walled structure contributes to the characteristics such as warm,sound insulation,good compression resistance and moisture absorption.As the textile materials,akund fiber has a great potential use in the market of fabric and garment.The scientific research on akund fiber has just begun recently,and still on the primary stage.Some researchers have do some basic studies on the properties of the akund fiber.But until recently,there are few reports on the akund yarns and fabric’s basic study.According to properties of the akund fiber and akund blended yarn,we rationally design some test scheme and product process,then make several fabric on the automatically rapier loom and circular knitting machine.By testing the akund blended yarns,we draw some conclusions that the blended yarns have a low breakage strength,much hairness.the smooth surface of the fiber leads to the weak cohesive force and the low yarn strength.In order to improve the yarn strength,the PVA and acrylic mixed size is applied in the subject.The test and analyses of the fabric properties,such as the mechanical property,wrinkle resistance,drapability,air permeability,warmth retention,bending and compression performance of the fabric,shows the akund fabric can be a acceptable substitute of cotton and synthetic fibers in the fields of fabric and garment.The purpose of the research and experiments is to provide some basic theories and suggestions for the industrial use of akund fiber.As a new natural textile material,akund fiber can bring prominent social and economical benefit by enhancing the studies on the development and applications of akund fibers.
