| Design of head-mounted products relies on precise measurement data of the human head.In the past,as designers could only get anthropometric data from western countries,Chinese users often couldn’t find head-mounted products that can "suit"them. In addition, the complexity of head geometry makes the traditional univariate data unable to accurately describe the head shape.Meanwhile,as the head consists of the elastic and inelastic parts, users have high requirements on the "suitability" of head-mounted products. The product "suitability does not only concern the comfort and sales, more importantly, improper safety helmets may also put the wearer’s life at risk. Therefore, accurate anthropometric data is of great significance for the design of head-mounted products suitable for Chinese people. In addition,in order to maximize the designer’s understanding and use of the data, the form of data output is also critical.Sizechina,as the world’s first research project for conducting 3D scanning on heads of Chinese people, was completed in 2008 with the aim of "building China’s first digital head-face database".However, since samples of Sizechina’s were old, less facial and ear features were extracted, and data accuracy was poor,Sizechina’s data and system will be thus fully updated for this SizeChina-Hunan research. With SizeChina-Hunan research, representative cities of seven population divisions in China were selected, the latest available data samples of 2,200 heads of Chinese people were collected, and 57 feature point marks and 35 project calculations were completed for each model file.In addition to data collection,SizeChina-Hunan has processed the latest 3D data of heads of Chinese people into a design tool suitable for the current design field and practice:3D human-head statistical model,China 3D human head database(Chinese Headbase),and 3D analysis and design assistant system for human head-face size of Chinese(Chinese Dimension),which provide a data base for the design of head-mounted products targeted at Chinese users. For this paper, the innovation lies in the fact that it is the first time to conduct a differentiated analysis of features of heads of Chinese people by gender, age and region, and the results of data analysis are design-oriented output. In this paper,35 head measurement items which were divided into five categories:head, face, eyes, nose and ears, were analyzed, and data statistics and comparison were conducted for each category by gender group, age group and geographical group, among which the characteristic statistics of 3D measurement include mean, standard deviation, maximum, minimum and percentile(5th,10th,25th,50th,75th,90th and 95th percentiles). In the grouping comparison of characteristic data of the gender group, there were multiple groups with statistically significant differences(p<0.05)or even extremely significant differences(p<0.01).For example,in the analysis of 35 feature items including head, face, eyes, nose and ears, the average value of 35 measurement items for male was greater than that for female(p<0.05).In the comparative analysis of the geographic group, there were multiple features showing a linear relationship with latitude variation(north-south).The research significance of this paper lies in the comparative analysis of 35 head features of 5 categories by gender, age and region for building an "anthropometry-human factor analysis-global value" framework system that is for Chinese and takes designers as the target users and data intelligence as the core and laying the foundation for the design service mode including human body knowledge base, design decision and interaction system, product design,man-machine analysis and evaluation. |
