Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,the construction of ecological civilization has become a major national strategy.The construction of a community of mountains,rivers,lakes,and grasses has become a new topic in this era.The core issue to be resolved is the contradiction between China's population and land resources.As an important means of production to feed the Chinese people,the protection of cultivated land resources is a key task to maintain food security and national security.However,a deep observation of the current status of cultivated land protection reveals the severe problems of farmland pollution,degradation,and desertion because of the triple challenge of quantity,quality,and ecology in the valuable limited cultivated land resources.Based on this,this case study of the Enshi City in Hubei Province clarifies the current status of cultivated land quality and analyzes the correlation between cultivated land landscape pattern and cultivated land quality from the perspective of the integration of geography and landscape ecology.It also attempts to find out the breakthrough in the identification of cultivated land quality and the protection of cultivated land quality to provide theoretical expansion,empirical exploration and realistic basis for the work of high-standard basic farmland construction,land consolidation,and balance of cultivated land occupation under the guidance of ecological landscape.As a result,the "Trinity"protection of cultivated land can be better realized.Firstly,based on the theory of land fertility,landscape ecology,and the theory of human-land coordination,the cultivated land quality evaluation system was established from the aspects of cultivated land site conditions,soil physical and chemical shapes,and supporting infrastructure of farmland.The spatial distribution of cultivated land quality in Enshi has been analyzed from two perspectives:the township scale and the geographical factors such as altitude,rivers,roads and rural settlements.Secondly,based on the classification principles of the towns and villages where the cultivated land is located,different altitudes,and different distances from rivers,roads,and rural settlements,Fragstats 4.2 software is used to calculate the selected eight landscape pattern indexes and to analyze the spatial pattern characteristics.Then to analyze the global and local spatial autocorrelation of cultivated land quality and landscape pattern index in Enshi to explore its spatial agglomeration characteristics via the software GeoDa.Finally,take 213 administrative villages in Enshi as samples,the correlation between cultivated land quality and cultivated land landscape pattern index was analyzed by a geographically weighted regression model.The following research conclusions are obtained:(1)The cultivated land with good quality of cultivated land is mainly distributed in the southwest corner of Enshi City and the middle part of the southeast-northwest trend.Cultivated land with poor quality is mainly distributed at the two ends in the southeast-northwest direction of Enshi City.Cultivated land is mostly distributed in lower altitudes nearer to rivers,roads,and rural settlements.The quality of cultivated land is greatly affected by altitude,rivers,and rural settlements.As the altitude decreases or the distance from rivers and rural settlements decreases,the area of cultivated land with good quality is more than that with poor quality.The quality of cultivated land is not greatly affected by roads.(2)The landscape dominance of the cultivated land in the central area of the city is small,the patch shape is simpler,more regular,and the fragmentation is smaller,but the aggregation and connectivity are poor.The higher the altitude,the lower the degree of aggregation and dominance of the cultivated land.The greater the fragmentation,the more complicated and irregular the shape;the area and the distance from the river(beyond 2000m)have a better degree of aggregation and dominance,but they are more fragmented and less shaped and less Regular.The closer to roads and rural settlements,the better the advantages of cultivated land,and the more clustered,the farther away from the roads,the more complex,irregular,and fragmented,the areas farther from the rural settlements are simpler and more regular with smaller Fragmentation.Based on the distribution of cultivated land quality,there is a certain correlation between cultivated land quality and the spatial distribution of landscape pattern index.(3)Seven landscape pattern indexes—the average quality of cultivated land is related to the patch type area(CA),maximum patch percentage(LPI),patch density(PD),landscape shape index(LSI),average proximity index(MPI),concentration index(COHESION)and the edge area fractal dimension(PAFRAC)have a certain global spatial positive correlation,showing spatial agglomeration.The average quality of cultivated land and the local clustering phenomenon of plaque type area(CA),maximum plaque percentage(LPI),average proximity index(MPI),and aggregation index(COHESION)are more obvious.(4)The plaque type area(CA),maximum plaque percentage(LPI),and average proximity index(MPI)can be used as a basis for determining the quality of cultivated land in Enshi to a certain extent,because more than 80%of the arable land quality of the administrative village CA),maximum plaque percentage(LPI),and average proximity index(MPI)show positive correlations.The quality of cultivated land in these areas is relatively good,while the quality of negatively correlated areas is poor.Patch density(PD)and landscape shape index(LSI)are not reliable basis for identifying cultivated land quality,because there is no positive or negative correlation between cultivated land quality and patch density(PD)and landscape shape index(LSI)in the region.(5)There is a certain degree of correlation between the quality of cultivated land and the landscape pattern index.The landscape pattern index can be used as a reference for the identification of cultivated land quality,land consolidation,and balance of cultivated land.
