Five vegetation types(deciduous broad-leaved forests, evergreen coniferous forests, dry farmland, shrub and orchard)in Typical mountainous area of southern Shanxi were selected to investigate butterfly species composition and population dynamics from 2016 to 2017,in order to study the indicative effect of species composition and population dynamics of butterfly on its habitat quality. The results as follows:(1)A total of 4242 species of butterflies were recorded in the sample area in two years, belonging to 101 species,65 genera and 6 families.Among them, there are 39 genera of 19 genera in the family of Nymphalidae, which is the highest in the number of genera and species, and is the dominant group in the Shanxi sample area. The number of genera in a family was the highest in Nymphalidae, followed by Lycaenidae>Satyridae=Hesperiidae>Pieridae>Papilionidae. The number of species in a family was the highest in Nymphalidae as well, followe by Lycaenidae>Satyridae>Hesperiidae>Pieridae>Papilionidae. The number of individuals in a family was the highest in Pieridae, followed by Lycaenidae>Nymphalidae>Satyridae>Papilionidae>Hesperiidae.(2)The species richness of butterfly community in different habitats was ranked as follows:shrub>deciduous broad-leaved forests>dry farmland>evergreen coniferous forests>orchard. The index of species dominance of butterfly communities in different habitats was ranked as follows:dry farmland>orchard>deciduous broad-leaved forests>evergreen coniferous forests>shrub. The species evenness index of butterfly communities in different habitats was ranked as follows:deciduous broad-leaved forests>shrub>evergreen coniferous forests>orchard>dry farmland. The species diversity index of butterfly communities in different habitats was ranked as follows:shrub>deciduous broad-leaved forests>evergreen coniferous forests>orchard>dry farmland.(3)The similarity coefficient among the five habitats reaches the range of 0.25-0.50,which being a moderate dissimilar level. The similarity coefficient of dry farmland and orchard is the highest(0.5000).Deciduous broad-leaved forests and orchard have the lowest coefficient of similarity(0.3194).(4)The species richness, dominance index, evenness index, diversity index and similarity index between different habitats in 5 habitat types were calculated and analyzed. In the natural ecosystem, tourism development, crop planting, environmental pollution, forest deforestation as the influence of human factors on the environment increases, index of butterfly community species diversity is low.The butterfly species diversity index and dominance index were negatively correlated.
