The Impact Of Transportation Infrastructure On Milk Production And Processing

Transportation infrastructure is the foundation of regional economic development,and is also an important condition for dairy industry chain operation.For milk production,transportation infrastructure determines the transportation cost and efficiency of raw milk,and then determines the distribution of raw milk production layout.For milk processing,transportation infrastructure determines the cost of raw milk collection and dairy sales,and then determines the location of dairy enterprises.Therefore,transportation infrastructure has an important impact on milk production and processing.Studying the impact of transportation infrastructure on the dairy industry layout is of great significance to the development of the dairy industry.Based on panel data in China from 2000 to 2016 of 29 provinces,this paper estimates the relationship between transportation infrastructure and inter-provincial milk production and processing layout by using fixed effect model,and then using mediation effect model analyze them of influence channels.The results show that:(1)At the regional level of milk production,transportation infrastructure facilitates the dairy industry clustering in eight provinces,including Hebei,Shandong,Liaoning,Inner Mongolia,Anhui,Henan,Guangxi and Ningxia.In the rest of 21 provinces,transportation infrastructure facilitates the dairy industrydiffusion provinces.(2)At the regional level of milk processing,transportation infrastructure has promoted the diffusion of dairy industry in 13 provinces,including Hebei,Jilin,Anhui,Henan,Shandong,Hubei,Guangxi,Sichuan,Yunnan,Shanxi,Qingahai,Ningxia and Xinjiang.In the other 16 provinces,transportation infrastructure is not associated with milk processing.(3)Mediation effect model shows that transportation infrastructure mainly influences the distribution of milk producing clustering regions through asset value concentration of dairy enterprises;the distribution of milk producing diffusions regions through number value concentration of dairy enterprises,asset value concentration of dairy enterprises,urban per capital disposable income,concentration of permanent population and per capital GDP.(4)The transportation infrastructure mainly influences the distribution of milk processing clustering regions through asset value concentration of dairy enterprises,concentration of permanent population and population density.
