“ Terminology Series of Natural Sciences Contrasted by Chinese – Mongolian — Biology” is a comprehensive biology dictionary based on basic biological noun terminology edited and published in 1992.The dictionary includes basic,important and common terminology in biology of vertebrates,invertebrates,anatomy,histoembryology,physiology,genetics,plant taxonomy and morphology,as well as input the common terminology in medicine,agriculture and animal husbandry.The dictionary has been published and used for 27 years.In the past 20 years,with the change of natural environment,the development of human society and the progress of science and technology,the species,distribution and even names of animals and plants are constantly changing.Combining the need for this development and change and renewal,on the basis of inheriting correct and reasonable noun terms in dictionaries,the paper points out and corrects existing problems,unifies and standardizes existing noun terms,chooses new noun terms that can be filled,and further improves and optimizes dictionary contents.These can not only meet the needs of the development of Mongolian biology,the popularization of biology knowledge,and the emergence of new biology-related disciplines,but also has great significance for the exchange of biology science and technology,the promotion and use of scientific research results,the compilation,publication and the Mongolian-Chinese translation of relevant materials and books for the teaching and research of biology course.From the perspective of ethnozoology and the history of animal science,this paper follows the principle of making the past serve the present and survival of the fittest,research the bird names in “A Series of Natural Sciences Noun Terminology Books Contrasted by Chinese and Mongolian-Biology”,to further improve and optimize the contents of dictionaries widely used but now out of print,on the basis of inheriting the traditional knowledge and culture related to the bird names recorded by the Mongolian people or passed down by the language.Firstly,the table statistics method is used to fill in the table with the Mongolian and Chinese names selected in the dictionary corresponding to different classifications of birds in the order of page numbers that appear.A total of 1148 items were counted.Secondly,the taxonomic status and distribution of birds were analyzed by using the methods of literature study,animal taxonomy and zoogeography.The results showed that 1003 of 1148 bird names corresponded to different classifications,while 145 of them belonged to errors,duplication or referring to sex and species;1003 items respective correspond to 1 aves,3 subclasses,6 superorders,38 orders,85 families and 870 genera or species,deal with the Archaeornithes and Odontognathae,Ratitae,Impennes and Carinatae of Neornithes.Among them,there are 37 orders,59 families and 250 species of non-passerine birds totaling 647 names studied in this paper.Birds recorded in the dictionary are not only distributed in China,but also in foreign countries.Therefore,the distribution range and regions are analyzed at three levels: Inner Mongolia,China(other provinces and regions other than Inner Mongolia)and foreign countries.Through comparative literature study and interviews with ethnozoology,this paper points out and corrects the problems in the recorded bird names in the dictionary,and selects and recommends new bird names that can be filled.According to the principles of correctness,normalization,conciseness,systematicness and stability of bird names,193 bird names are corrected,standardized and unified;According to the classification,distribution,morphological structure,age and sex of birds,as well as the requirements of compiling textbooks for primary and secondary schools,172 new Mongolian and Chinese bird names were selected to fill in.
