Chinese Scientific Technology Western Spreading And Influence In The 17^th And 18^th Century

In the modem cultural communication between East and West, domestic and foreign community paid more attention to the influence to China caused by European science. However, in fact, during the 17^th and 18^th century, the contribution of China science to Europe is much more impressive than the influence caused by European scientific community.This thesis mainly considers: (1) In the 17th and 18th century, what is the historical background for the happening of "Chinese knowledge western spreading"? Which typical historical events and facts brought on this cultural communication? (2) In this cultural communication, which kind of Chinese traditional scientific technology has been spread out? (3) What influence to Europe caused by Chinese traditional scientific technology.A large number of research shows: (1) he missionary in China became the principle part of this cultural spreading; French and British Royal Academy of Sciences played important role; (2) The main western spreading contents of Chinese cultural scientific technology are: Chinese traditional Astronomy, Medicine, and arts and crafts; (3) Western spreading of Chinese traditional scientific technology had an important impact to Europe. In the 18th century, it raised an upsurge of Chinese culture. Leibniz and Voltaire were both crazy fans of Chinese culture. But after the 18th Century, criticisms raised gradually. The change of European attitude to Chinese science and culture deserved our speculation.
