China is one of the megadivers biodiversity countries in the world.Through their wisdom and long-term practice in the duration of development,all the ethnic groups in China have created a large number of traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity which has important cultural,economic and ecological value.As traditional knowledge is playing significant role increasingly in both biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of biological resources currently,,it has gained lots of attention from all over the world.However,a large amount of traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity are at the risk of disappearance now.Mulao nationality as one of the small population ethnic minorities in China,the loss of traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity of Mulao is getting more serious.Mulao people has formed numerous unique customs,and created a distinctive traditional culture,therefore,their traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity of Mulao nationality is abundant in the history.Investigation,catalogue and analysis of traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity of Mulao nationality were finished from five aspects:traditional agriculture genetic resources,traditional medicine,traditional technology and life style,traditional culture and traditional geographical indication products by using the method of literature review,field survey,entry catalogue and data statistical analysis,and then summarized the characteristics of traditional knowledge of Mulao nationality.In order to reveal the plight of the traditional knowledge of Mulao in protection and inheritance,this paper did a case study of traditional vegetable resources of Mulao nationality in Luocheng County based on the former research.As well as proposed protective strategies and measures,in hope of providing scientific and technological support for further protection and utilization.of traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity of Mulao people.The main results from the study were summarized as follows:1.By doing literature research and filed research for many times,the study cataloged 423 traditional knowledge entries of Mulao,including 96 traditional agriculture genetic resources entries(22.70%),219 traditional medicine entries(51.77%),56 traditional technology and life style entries(13.4%),40 traditional culture entries(9.46%),12 traditional geographical indication products entries(2.84%).The contents include background information,basic description,traditional knowledge characters,spatial and temporal distribution,access and benefit sharing condition,protection and utilization situation and so on.On the basis of this catalog,this paper analyzed the forming characteristics,developmental characteristics and utilization characteristics of traditional knowledge of Mulao nationality,and it laid the foundation for systematically gasping the biodiversity traditional knowledge system of Mulao and establishing the traditional knowledge database.2.Field survey,literature review and data collection about traditional vegetable germplasm resources utilization of Mulao were adopted.93 traditional and wild vegetable resources,belonging to 24 families and 56 Genera,were recorded and cataloged,including 24 leaf vegetables(25.81%),16 eggplant vegetables(17.20%),12 root vegetables(12.90%),11 leguminous vegetables(11.83%),8 coriander vegetables(8.60%),5 pepper vegetables(5.38%),1 radish vegetable(1.08%).Among these vegetables,the sort of leaf vegetables was the prominent group in vegetable resources in the utilization of Mulao people.Resource types of traditional vegetables were divided into wild vegetable and cultivated vegetable,including 77 cultivated vegetables(82.79%)and 16 wild vegetables(17.21%).In the survey results of edible parts of vegetable resources,leaves and fruit of vegetables are used as the main edible parts by Mulao,followed by stems and roots,and the flowers were less used.Based on the investigation of traditional vegetable resources,this paper summarized the feature of traditional knowledge about traditional vegetable:the way of farming,cultivation and utilization.Through conducting questionnaire survey and key informant interview of local Mulao residents,it found that traditional vegetable planting quantity and the area of land used for planting traditional vegetable is gradually shrinking in 30 years.The main factors affecting the change of Mulao traditional vegetables are:1)Reduction of the farmland area;2)Shortcomings of traditional vegetable;3)Introduction and promotion of new varieties;4)Gradual outflow of labor;3.According to the catalog of Mulao traditional knowledge and the case study of Mulao traditional vegetable resources in Luocheng County,main predicament of protecting and inheriting traditional knowledge were analyzed and summarized.In view of these difficulties,this paper put forward some suggestions and countermeasures to further study and protected the traditional knowledge of Mulao people in combination with the concrete reality of Luocheng Mulao Autonomous County.This paper carried on the systematic research and cataloged traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity of Mulao people,and analyzed the characteristics of Mulao traditional knowledge scientifically to provide scientific and technical support for the heritage and protection of Mulao traditional knowledge.This paper revealed the dynamic changes of traditional knowledge associated with biodiversity through traditional vegatables,and analyzed protection and inheritance problems of traditional knowledge and put forward countermeasures.
