Forest tending is the main forest management behavior in forest region in northeastern China. As one of the human interference factors, the impact of forest tending on habitat selection and population density cannot be ignored. In this study, wild boar(Sus scrofa)and roe deer(Capreolus pygargus)were used as research objects. The field investigation was conducted from December 2015 to January 2016 at the Dongfanghong Key State-owned Forest Management Bureau in Wanda Mountains.Using ArcGIS,MAXENT,R,and other analysis software, combined with the maximum entropy model(MAXENT)and the generalized additive model(GAM)to assess the habitat suitability of wild boar and roe deer in the study area, explore the effects of different tending methods under different tending times and other habitat factors on the habitat selection and population density of wild boar and roe deer.Get the result as follows:1)Wild boar shows a preference for closed-to-open coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forests;prefers the area which is about 500-1400m from grassland/forest/brush mosaic, about within 1.8km from rivers, the smooth slope and the forest tending area which is 4 years after the release cutting,1 year after the brush cutting and weeding and the year of accretion cutting;2)Roe deer shows a preference for closed deciduous broad-leaved forests and closed-to-open coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forests;prefers the area which is northeast slope, east slope, southeast slope, elevation is about 140-260m,about 2km or more from villages, about 1-5km from rivers, about 3-8km from roads, and the forest tending area which is 3 years after the release cutting;3)The suitable habitat area for wild boar is 352.92km,accounting for 20.49%of the total area of the study area. The suitable habitat area for roe deer is 308.08km,accounting for 17.88%of the total area of the study area;4)The average density of wild boar population in the line transect surveyed is 0.28 +0.39/km2,and the model predicts the average population density of the entire study area is 0.27+0.28/km2;5)The average density of roe deer population in the line transect surveyed is 2.19 ±1.99/km2,and the model predicts the average population density of the entire study area is 2.02±2.16/km2.In summary, the results of this study have important reference value for the protection and management of wild boar and roe deer population in the Wanda Mountains area of China.
