| Place names are the results of long-term comprehensive effects of various factors such as geographical environment,historical changes,language and culture,local conditions,and economic and social production patterns in specific regions.They have strong regional characteristics;and most place names can exist for a long time.The characteristics are sufficient to reflect the natural and cultural landscapes of the historical period and the actual stage within the region.Furthermore,once the place names are produced,they have strong inheritance and stability;therefore,the connotation of place names is examined from multiple angles and the names are analyzed.Elements,inquiring into the naming rules,spatial distribution and regional characteristics of geographical names,and revealing the unique natural and human geography environmental conditions behind the formation of geographical names have extremely important significance.From the perspective of geography,this paper analyzes the source types of Tonghua,with a view to reproduce Tonghua' s unique natural and humanistic geographical environment by naming elements of the land,and analyzes the spatial distribution,regional characteristics and formation reasons of Tonghua.The names of the settlements in Tonghua City are named after natural sites,accounting for 57.28%of the total.Among them,the geographical names are 882,which accounts for the largest proportion.The word“ditch”has the largest number of geographical names and is widely distributed.This is mainly due to the low hilly landforms in Tonghua City,which are formed by cutting rivers.Since this type of landform is relatively flat and close to the river,Suitable for the formation of human settlements,place names in this distribution.This is followed by 540 geographical names and 13.79%of the total geographical names.Hydrological place names were 232,accounting for 5.92%of the total place names.Hydrological names are mostly distributed along rivers and streamlines,which are consistent with the distribution of water systems in Tonghua City.The total area of humanities names is about 42.72%,with the largest number of geographical names being 734,and the total number of geographical names being about 18.74%.There are a total of 154 surnames involved.The diversity of surnames shows that Tonghua City belongs to the status of mixed populations and is closely related to the migration of historical population from a deeper level.Followed by the category names,there are 287,accounting for 7.33%of the total.The type of place names in the mailing category reflect people's pursuit of social stability and life happiness.There are 166 architectural names,reflecting the architectural style of Tonghua City.There are 147 economic names,from which you can see the local economic development.There are 142 language names,of which the most prominent is the Manchu language name,followed by the Korean name.Through density analysis and nuclear density analysis of settlement names,the overall characteristics of the spatial distribution of settlement names in Tonghua City are derived:There is a non-equilibrium spatial distribution of geographical names,manifested in the distribution of geographical names in the northwest region is more dense than other regions.In the concentration,the number of geographical names in the southeastern region is less distributed.The study of the relationship with the physical and geographical environment,through spatial analysis of topography and hydrology,concluded that settlement names are mostly distributed in hilly landforms with an elevation of 200-400m,a gentle slope with a gradient of 2-12°,and grade one.The river buffer is more than 1000m,and the area of the second and third river buffers is 200-400m;the research on the relationship between human and geographical environment is mainly from the perspective of population and economy,and it is concluded that the distribution of geographical names is positively related to the density of population distribution.In areas with high population density,there are more geographical names.The distribution of geographical names has a low degree of correlation with the degree of economic development.That is to say,the degree of economic development has a relatively small impact on geographical
