China's economy is undergoing rapid growth in the past and has entered the new normal economy with high-speed growth.Under this background, consumption has become increasingly important for the sustainable growth of China's economy.Premier Li Keqiang has repeatedly stated in the government work report that it is necessary to raise the level of China's household consumption and increase the basic role of consumption in economic growth. However, the consumption situation of residents in our country is not optimistic. It is embodied in the low consumption rate and unreasonable consumption structure. The problem of low final consumption rate in China has aroused great attention from the government, and many policies aiming at promoting consumption have been introduced. An important reason for the low consumption of residents in China is that the consumption of rural residents is relatively low compared to urban residents,in order to expand consumption in China. The market, especially the rural consumer market, has become urgently needed. At the same time, the development of different regions in rural China is very different. When we study the consumption structure of rural residents in China,we must consider the differences between regions.Through the study of the regional differences in China's rural consumption structure,we found that there are problems in China's rural consumption, and put forward reasonable suggestions for these issues. The econometric model commonly used in the consumption structure is the ELES model. However,in the empirical analysis,cross-sectional data are often used to reflect the changes in the consumption structure. However, the general panel ELES model requires the concrete form of the artificial hypothesis model, which may increase For the estimation error, this paper selects the variable-coefficient panel ELES model, expands the ELES model assumptions according to the characteristics of China's rural residents' consumption structure, and empirically analyzes the differences in the consumption structure of rural residents in China at different times and regions, and validates this paper. The correctness of the model assumptions.Based on the related theory of consumption function and econometric model, this paper analyzes the regional differences of rural residents' consumption structure in China. The main conclusions of this article are:(1)The income levels of rural residents in the eastern, northeastern, western, and central regions have all rapidly increased.According to the growth rate of income, the order from high to low is the west, central, northeast, and east. The per capita net income in the order of high to low is east, northeast, central, and west.(2)China's eastern rural areas and northeastern regions entered the most prosperous stage from the well-off stage in 2001,and the western and central regions entered the affluent stage from the 2001 food and clothing stage.Although the Engel coefficient may not fully reflect the affluence of a country or region, the prevalence of food consumption expenditures in consumer spending is gradually weakening.(3)The proportion of subsistence consumption in different areas of rural areas in China's total consumption expenditure has gradually decreased, which shows that the consumption structure of rural residents in China has been improved to some extent.(4)The average propensity to consume of rural residents in different regions of China shows a downward trend, among which the average propensity to consume has the greatest fluctuation, which is related to the characteristics of higher income in the eastern region. The basic consumption of rural residents in the eastern region has been met.In pursuit of high-quality consumption, this part of consumption is affected more by income, and thus the volatility is also higher than in the region.(5)Through the empirical analysis of the variable coefficient panel ELES model, during the period from 2001 to 2015,the consumption structure of rural residents in China has changed a lot,and there are also differences in the consumption structure among rural residents in different regions. The basic consumer expenditure of rural residents in China continues to increase, but the ratio of basic consumer expenditure to actual consumption expenditure shows a declining trend. This can also indicate that the living conditions of rural residents in China are gradually improving.(6)The marginal propensity to consume of rural residents in China has a time effect, that is,the marginal propensity to consume varies with time, the marginal propensity to consume in food and medicine declines year by year, and the marginal propensity to consume and transport increases year by year. There is no obvious trend in the marginal consumption propensity of other consumer items. There are differences in the marginal propensity to consume among rural residents in different regions. The marginal consumption propensity of food in the western region is the highest. The marginal propensity to consume in communications, communication, culture, education and entertainment is the lowest. The marginal consumption propensity of medical and clothing in the eastern region is the highest, and the marginal propensity to consume of food is lowest.(7)The consumption structure of rural residents in China has changed greatly from 2001 to 2015.The consumption structure in the central region has the largest degree of change, followed by the western and eastern areas in the northeast.(8)The income elasticity of food and clothing consumption is less than 1,which also shows that rural residents in China are rigid in consumption of food and clothing, and income elasticity of residence, family equipment, health care, culture, education and entertainment, transportation, communications, and other goods and services.Greater than 1,which is closely related to the high expected expenditure of these consumer expenditures, also shows that these consumer expenditures are a luxury for rural residents.
