Research Of Patent Portfolio Based On Patentometrics

Since the reform and opening-up,China has experienced a rapid economic development and made remarkable achievements,however,the extensive mode of China's economic development has more serious problems and the degree of dependency upon foreign technology is high,thus,China is at a disadvantaged position in economic globalization.Based on this situation,China has turned to increase the investment of technology research and development,encourage technology innovation and advocate the whole country and all enterprises to develop an independent intellectual property rode.In addition,patents are an indispensable component of intellectual property and play an increasingly important role in economic development,while patent documents are a kind of special document integrating technical information,economic information and legal information,that's why the whole world,especially technique developed countries attached great importance on patent research and protection.The research was focused on patent portfolio and started form the analysis of patentometrics,and then put forward different patent portfolio modes according to different stages of technical development for enterprises.In the end,it took Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd.as a case study to analyze and verify these modes.The thesis was divided into five chapters.Chapter one introduced the research background and the significance of the subject,gave an overall literature review of the related research of domestic and overseas,and then gave a simple description of research design,research method and innovation spots of this paper.Chapter two introduced the concepts of patentometrics and patent portfolio,and made a comparison of the current patentometrics tools and choose Innography as the analysis tool of this research.It also generalized the indexes of patentometrics and the goals and modes of patent portfolio and selected idexes faced to patent portfolio.On this basis,it interpreted the relationship between patentometrics and patent portfolio:the former is the foundation of the latter while the latter relies on the former,and the latter can be measured from the macroscopic,the intermediate and the microscopic perspectives with the indexes of the former.Chapter three divided all enterprises into cutting-edge firms,catching-up firms and lagging-behind firms in accordance with comprehensive technology strength,and puts forward different suitable patent portfolio modes for every type of firms,and also made additional explanation of indexical meaning,feasibility and method of every patent portfolio mode,which is also the most remarkable innovation point of this paper.What's more,this chapter provided the patent portfolio procedures and strategies against competitors.Chapter four reviewed the history of Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd.and then divided the history into three stages of start-up,rapid development and steady move-up.The three stages are corresponding with three different types of firms from the angle of comprehensive technology strength.Then,it used Innography to retrieve patents of Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd.and did visualized analysis on the basis of the indexes of patentometrics put forward in chapter two and verified the practicability and correctness of the patent portfolio modes put forward in chapter three with the concrete examples of Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd..At last,it simply demonstrated the effect of patent portfolio of the company.The last chapter made a brief and full conclusion of the achievements,limits and suggestions of this paper,as well the improvement of patent portfolio in the future.
