Critical Success Factors Of Construction Contractor's Claim For Extension Of Time From The Perspective Of Standardization

Due to the complexity of the engineering practice,the success of claim for extension of time is affected by many factors.However,manager's energy and time are limited.It is difficult to pay attention to all.If we put more energy into the several Key factors of management,we can get twice the result with half the effort,the possibility of a successful claim will raise.So,this paper aims to study the critical success factors of claim for extension of time by construction contractor's.The specific research route is:First of all,through the analysis of the basic system and related documents of claim for extension of time,the critical success factors of claim for extension of time can be identified.After demonstrating,selecting and merging these factors,we can classify them according to the degree of correlation.Finally,25 critical success factors are identified and divided into three categories: the related system factors,claims personnel factors,project environmental factors.On the basis of the above analysis,a questionnaire was designed and distributed to the people who are experienced in claim for extension of time.130 valid questionnaires were collected,and the survey data were input to statistical analysis.Our results show that 7 critical factors including “Project management are controlled strictly,the records of construction process and other types of project information are preserved completely”,“Claim reports are clear and the evidence are truthful ”,“Claim reports are sent with time limit of contract ”,“Claims staff has the high claim consciousness and are able to timely identify claim matter”,“Claims staff fully communicate with the owner and follow up the claim for examination ”,“Project management won recognition and support of the owners”,“The encouragement and punishment system are built for working-day claims ”are the most important to the success of the claim for extension of time.And then we discuss the management of the 7 critical success factors from the perspective of standardization,put forward relevant suggestions which provide a relatively practical approach for project managers.
