The cost of equipment and materials,a main parameter in engineering construction projects,accounts for a significant proportion in the overall project:investment while the cost control of such equipment and materials works as a key risk point in the investment management,a priority among priorities.How to control and manage the price of those equipment and materials in engineering projects in an effective manner plays an important role in effectively managing project investments.This paper,based on the cost information management theory,taking into account of the management practices of a specific oil company,peeps into the different features and attributes of the role that the cost of equipment and materials plays in each and every stage of engineering projects and by establishing a complete management system to control and manage the cost,it features quite high feasibility and operability.First,it sets up a cost information management system for the engineering projects via a thorough analysis and research of the measures employed in cost information management to start with the grounds on which pricing of the equipment and materials is carried out thus to control their cost from the sources;Secondly,by analyzing the traits and characteristics of the cost of equipment and materials used during the construction process,an overall cost control system that applies throughout the entire construction duration to safeguard the consistent and constant cost control is worked out;Thirdly,in order to guarantee the successful implementation of the cost control and management of the equipment and materials,supporting management mechanisms including ledger management,tracking and assessment,multi-channel communication and so forth are also set up after in-depth studies,forming an end-to-end cost management system for equipment and materials in engineering projects thus to ensure that during the entire project process,the cost of equipment and materials is always under control and is consistently in conformity to the price standard.
