Research On Issues Of Developing Jinan As A City Of Regional Logistics Center

With the rapid domestic economic growth and global economic integration,logistics industry plays an increasingly important role in trades in China.Governments and decision makers have pushed for faster development in logistics industry to boost economic growth.The proposal of “Developing four centers to build a modern Spring City” from the government of Jinan City includes “Developing Jinan as a City of Regional Logistics Center”as one of its goals.Jinan City,as the capital city of Shandong Province,national super-size city and one of the important national transportation hubs,has developed large scale logistics industry.Based on modern logistics theory and regional logistics center theory,this paper analyses the current status,advantages and disadvantages of the logistics industry development in Jinan.Qualitative analysis was used for supply,demand and policy factors,which have impact on developing Jinan as a regional logistics center city.Based on the analysis,new influencing factors were developed for carrying out quantitative empirical study based on econometric models.Results show that,the increase of government spending will improve the regional logistics concentration level for Jinan.Although the ratio is positive,its effects will only reach the highest level after a certain period of time.This means that there is lag between the increase of government spending and the improvement of regional logistics concentration level.The optimisation of Jinan's industrial structure will also improve the regional logistics concentration level for Jinan.This suggests that Jinan should continue to optimise its industrial structure to achieve a higher level of regional logistics concentration.At the same time,improving the education level for logistics professionals will benefit the logistics industry development in Jinan.At last,based on the research results,this paper provides suggestions and recommendations regarding developing Jinan as a city of regional logistics center.It is expected that this research will contribute for policy makers when empirical research results are needed.
