As the one of the most important management theories, Six Sigma brings too much benefit to the enterprises, especially in the vehicle fields which have the strictest requirements. But in our country, few engine development studies apply design six sigma. More focus on the problems occurred after the products launched in the markets. Till now, most of the studies settle on the six sigma improvement(DMIAC) and theory discussion, through the training and introducing the process of design for six sigma(DFSS). Very few study apply the six sigma theory and process at the product concept phase when the new products developed which focus on the customers’ requires.One international famous engine company always launch the matured precuts in China market. To sever the China customers better and promote the competitive power, it found the Asia research institution with the main strategic customer in China. At the same time, this research center also develops a new generation heavy duty engine with the parent firm for China upmarket. One kind of product competitive power is not only by design capability, but also by the supply chain. At the beginning, the Asia center would develop the engine parts and focus on the customer contents at the concept design phase with suppliers through the DFSS process. C company would draw lessons from the parent firm and develop the since it was found in quite short time. Then set up the six sigma management process which fits the internal situation.First, this paper proposes the background, method, aim and meaning of the study. Also describe the classification of six sigma and the difference between them. Then introduces the suitable DFSS management application study at C company. The study first begins with the DFSS induction, and then found the multifunctional function team. Referring the parent firm’s new product DFSS process, C company carry out the study of the transmission system match at the research center. On the theory side, this paper realizes the new product development process creation by applying the DFSS methods. Also, this paper describes the detail application on the engine development. Applied the concept identification, concept design, target optimization, and capability validation process with critical factor, process map, DFMEA, cause and effect, DOE and RSM tools, study the transmission match and oil consumption of F type engine performance at different rating speed. Then verify the capability by VMS simulation software which connected with test bench. After that, combined with the different transmissions’ price compare, we then optimize the engine match. At last, we summarize the DFSS application scope and experience by complete this project, which is very helpful for DFSS popularization and experience accumulation at the research center. |
