Research On The Publication Of Medical Books Of Chinese Medicine Associations During The Republic Of China

Objective: By the analysis of data which screening and statistics of traditional Chinese medicine books that were published by TCM associations in the Republican period. We get the exact quantity and species of TCM books which published by TCM associations in the Republican period and compared with the medicine books which were published by the comprehensive bookstore in republican China .The paper is aimed at seeking out the characteristics of publication of medicine books of TCM associations in republican China and objective evaluating the contribution and deficiency of TCM associations in Republican China.Method: We use the classical method of philology. The paper will collect the related books?papers and historical materials from the Full-text Database Periodicals of China?The national library electronic periodicals of the republic of China library. We use classification?statistics method to analyse the publication state of TCM associations in Republican China.The comparative method was used ,combine with TCM in Republican China's background,the publication of TCM associations were compared with other professional bookstore of the same period of medical books and publishing activities.Objective evaluating the contribution and deficiency of TCM associations in Republican China.Results: 700 kinds of medicine books which were published by TCM associations in Republican China were retrieved by seeking?China's TCM ancient books catalogue?and?The period of the republic of China total bibliography?.The species of books including basic theory,Chinese Materia Medica,prescription,clinic,Tuina manipulation,acupuncture,TCM diagnosis,medical history,consilia and symposium on Medical Topics etc. The number of medical books published by the TCM association in the Republic of China accounts for more than 15% of the total number of medical books in the Republic of china.the number of TCM books of four comprehensive publishing press,such as The Commercial Press?Zhonghua Book Company?Shijie Book Company and Dadong Book Company was counted. We found that TCM association was the important part of TCM publication in republic by compared four comprehensive publishing press with it. Large bookstores because of many factors, publishing TCM books were less. The publication peak was appeared during 1936 then the publication activity was rapidly lowering because the war of resistance against Japan.Conclusion: TCM associations in the Republican period make greater contribution to TCM academy development and circulation of TCM books.During the period of the Republic of China, the four large commercial publishing houses in Shanghai had fewer medical books, and they were not the main force of publication. Before and after 1936, the publication of traditional Chinese medicine has reached a peak, which can be referred to as the publication of traditional Chinese medicine books in the past few years.
