| The world's commercial search engine in the top has no longer provided advanced link query service by the beginning of 2012.It leads to the insufficiency of link data source,seriously hinder the development of studies which using link data.In this background,this article will study the network structure of universities using URL citation as a substitute for link data.This article confirms that the URL connection between universities is meaningful through the research of URL citation network of universities and the analytic method of URL citation can be used to analyze the relationship among universities.This article also excavates some information hidden behind the URL citation and finds some development characteristics of Chinese and American colleges.The exploration and research on URL citation network of colleges are of theoretical and practical value to URL citation analysis and the further development of our universities.The studies of agency network structure usually use link analysis at home and abroad,although some research has been conducted for URL citation and has obtained certain achievements,at present the study of URL citation more focused on whether it can be used as an alternative of link analysis.For research object,the studies of URL citation in domestic are focused on study of business competition.Also the present studies are lack of comparative in a single environment and a single domain.Based on the theory of the existing study,this paper selects universities as objects of the study.We conduct a complete and systematic research on structure of universities URL citation network.It contains four networks under different environment and different domain: the study on Chinese universities URL co-occurrence network structure,the study on Chinese universities URL cross-citation network structure,the study on American universities URL co-occurrence network structure,the study on American universities URL cross-citation network structure.The main contents as stated in the following chapters.The first chapter introduces the research background,significance and status,expounds the research contents and methods of this article.The second chapter introduces correlation theory of webometrics and URL citation.(such as link analysis,the concept of URL citation analysis,research tools and methods);the third and fourth chapters make a verifying research on 985 college websites of China and 40 top universities websites of US respectively.The two chapters explore the structure characteristics of the Chinese and American universities URL citation network under the whole domain and university intranet domain.Meanwhile,the two chapters confirm that the URL connection between universities is meaningful and analyze that universities show in which significant relationship in the URL co-occurrence and cross-citationnetworks.Also,we excavate some information hidden behind the URL citation;the fifth chapter compares the differences of China and the United States URL citation network structure.Through the comparison and combining with practical situation of China and the United States,the chapter explores the differences of colleges and its websites between China and the United States,finds the shortage of colleges in our country and makes prospect for the future development.The sixth chapter summarizes the shortcomings of the whole article,the limitations of the URL citation analysis.In a word,this paper introduces the process of the URL citation data collection and statistics analysis in detail,do a comprehensive and systematic description and demonstration for URL connection characteristic of Chinese and American cyberspace and display visually.There by,the paper verifies the methods of URL citation analysis can be used to analyzed the relationship between universities,then find the lack of the universities in our country through analyzing network structures and offer some proposals for development of Chinese education. |
