In recent years,millimeter wave and its application technology have a rapid development.Millimeter-wave signal source is a core part of the whole millimeter-wave system.Its performance directly determines the performance of the entire millimeter-wave system.The frequency multiplier is the most effective way to obtain the millimeter-wave signal source,so W-band frequency multiplier should be the main research content of broadband 3mm frequency synthesis.In this paper,we achieve the W-band sextupler by the cascade method.Ku-band signal(12.5-17.5GHz)can be frequency-doubled to W-band(75-105GHz).The main components of the frequency multiplier are the Ka-band frequency doubler,the Ka-band bandpass filter,the Ka-band power amplifier,the W-band tripler and a microstrip-to-waveguide transition.The key component of W-band tripler is DMK 2790 Schottky diode.Anti-parallel diode pairs which used to suppress even harmonics can improve the output power.The input signal pass through the Ka-band frequency doubler and generate the secondary harmonic signal.Then,it passes through the Ka-band bandpass filter and the Ka-band power amplifier.Then,it passes through the input matching circuit to drive the Schottky diode pairs.The third harmonic signal produced by the diode pairs gets across the output matching circuit and outputs through the standard rectangular waveguide WR-10 by a microstrip-to-waveguide transition.In the simulation,we optimize each circuit by Aglient ADS and Ansoft HFSS.AS can be seen from the final emulational results of W-band tripler,when the power of input signal(25-35GHz)is +20dBm,the average power of output signal(75~105GHz)is greater than+3dBm,and the flatness is less than 1.2dB.The size of the entire sextupler is 42mm*14mm*16mm,small and integrated.The test results of the entire sextupler show,when the power of input signal(12.5-17.5GHz)is +5dBm,the power of output signal(75-105GHz)is greater than-4.6dBm,and the maximum point is+2.6dBm.It is higher than OdBm in the band of 75-82GHz and 92-99GHz,and it can be used for local oscillator of the millimeter wave.
