Waveguide slot array antenna inherently gets the characteristics of compact structure,low feeding loss,high efficiency and high power handing ability.Meanwhile,because of the aperture distribution of the Waveguide slot array antenna can be easily controlled,antenna with narrow beam,low side lobe level or shaped beam can be easily realized by it.So waveguide slot array antenna still occupies an irreplaceable position in today's Radar and communication systems.Combined with the engineering background of a multi-beam quasi-continuous wave radar,this paper make a research on the design method and engineering application of waveguide slot array antenna.The design method is used in the new proposed Gap waveguide(GW),and a filter antenna array based on GW is introduced.The main work is given in the following:Firstly,the paper discuss the calculation of the slots conductance with the method of traveling-wave approximation and equivalent circuits.Slots conductance of an X band slot array antenna is extracted by using HFSS.And then an array with 6×63 slots is designed and fabricated.Measurement results show good agreement with simulation results.The designed array exhibits a side lobe level(SLL)of<-25.9dB and a gain of>28.9dBi within the 12%bandwidth.Then the designed slot array antenna is applied to a multi-beam quasi-continuous wave radar.We designed a network with a structure of two layers of microstrip PCBs for the use of multi-beam forming.The antenna system which consists of slot array antenna,network,transmitting and receiving module is constructed.Near-filed scanning method is used for the calibration of the system,sum and difference patters of the array are given after calibration.Compared with traditional hollow waveguide.GW is widely used in millimeter wave band because it ask for a lower request for machining precision.A14 slots line array based on GW is designed by using the method of conductance extracting and equivalent circuit theory.Then the method of integration is used in the combining of the antenna and a 4th order filter to eliminate the transition loss between the two components.Moreover,signals of adjacent frequency band are suppressed effectively.
