With rapid development in recent years, optical fiber communication, has become the important pillar of the modern communication and plays a very important role in the development of modern communication. The detection of Optical fiber terminals has became one of the most important study of the optical fiber communication because it is the indispensable device in optical fiber communication system. With the development of modern industrial and manufacturing, the outline of traditional measurement methods for the processing object has been unable to meet our requirement of high precision detecting, high efficiency and complex objects, need we seek a new detection method.So it is imminent to look for a new detection method.As one of the hot research topic in industrial detection applications in recent years, Machine vision inspection technology not only can increase the speed and efficiency, also can reduce the cost of testing, thus it has been widely used in the field of industrial testing and control. On the basis of machine vision technology and image detection method, this paper proposes a optical fiber terminal detection system based on machine vision technology.The new system is different with traditional optical fiber terminal detection method and can meet the requirements of modern industrial development better.The main research content of this article is as follows:Firstly, the paper analyzed the current situation of optical fiber terminal detection at home and abroad and puts forward the shortcomings; And then, combined with machine vision detection technology, aiming at its disadvantages, put forward a set of digital image processing techniques based on machine vision detection system, and its hardware and software part were designed. The hardware aspect mainly includes the selection of light sources, the design of lighting solution, the installation position of the camera and light source arrangement and computer configuration used in the experiment.The software part mainly analyzed the commonly used image processing algorithm in the process of testing,grayed the collecting image,denoised the image by using s a 3 x 3 median filter template filter and made it smooth, adopt the method of threshold segmentation of image binarization processing, selected the Robert operator edge detection for the image and get the edge of the sample we need. Also, it proposed a measurement method for terminal measurement of the sample based on image pixel size. The whole system based on labview platform, and with the help of the software package of NI- IMAQ to realize the whole process of image processing and measuring, implements a set of optical fiber terminal detection based on machine vision inspection technology system. Finally, it repeated the experiment for measuring system, analyzes the experiment data, calculate its accuracy, and possible error in the measurement process are summarized.Relative to the traditional manual inspection, the visual system will increase to a certain extent in the degree of automation, the measuring accuracy and efficiency.It has good application prospect.
