With the increasing tide of data services, the network energy consumption rises. The way about effectively cutting down the energy consumption in the network has gradually become the hot spot of many scholars. Now the typical structure of the backbone network is IP over WDM networks. The WDM technique can not satisfy the growing needs of bandwidth. Some scholars have proposed IP over EON networks to address the issue. The networks use OFDM technology and allot more nimble spectrum. Therefore the networks will be regarded as the principle development trend of optical transport network in future.Firstly, the research background and development status are briefly introduced. The key technologies of IP over EON networks are explained in detail. What’s more, the key distance-adaptive modulation formats and other issues are primarily discussed.Secondly, for limited capacity of IP over EON networks, the paper proposes the path-based distance-adaptive modulation formats ILP(Integer Linear Programming) algorithm to solve the maximum of the network throughput. Comparing distance-adaptive and single modulation formats in path-based ILP algorithms, the results show that path-based distance-adaptive modulation formats algorithm increases the throughput considerably. The reason is that the path-based distance-adaptive modulation formats ILP algorithm chooses the suitable modulation format from the different modulation formats based on the path length, and increases the received requests.Thirdly, for adequate resources of IP over EON networks, the paper analyses the energy consumption of the two path-based ILP algorithms, which are distance-adaptive and single modulation formats in path-based ILP algorithms. The simulation results show that the path-based distance-adaptive modulation formats ILP method can save a lot of energy. According to the size of the request, the distance-adaptive modulation formats algorithm can select the modulation format of the lowest energy consumption. Finally, the paper also analyses the spectrum efficiency of the two path-based ILP algorithms in the same networks. With the flexibility of the modulation formats selection, distance-adaptive modulation formats increase the utilization of transponders. The simulation results show that the path-based distance-adaptive modulation formats ILP algorithm greatly saves the spectrum and improves the spectrum efficiency. Because the path-based distance-adaptive modulation formats ILP algorithm can flexibly choose the modulation format. |
