Media access control in wireless sensor networks is responsible for assigning the wireless communication channels to sensor nodes, achieve efficient allocation of communication resources, and is very important to the performance of wireless sensor network. In practical application,MAC protocol mainly has two challenges in design: 1)Sensor nodes in WSN have limited energy and deployed in a complex environment, the data sending and receiving task cannot be maintained when one or more nodes run out of energy, and then the overall performance of the network will be influenced;2)As the network works, the network traffic may increase or decrease at a certain moment, for example, the change of topology caused by energy of nodes due to energy exhaustion or some unexpected events triggered by outside emergencies; The RF module is the most energy-intensive module in the node, and is controlled by MAC protocol,so it is very necessary to design an adaptive and low-energy MAC protocol in WSN.This paper comprehensively considered the characteristics of energy consumption and variable network traffic,to study and improve MAC protocol, can mainly divided into three research contents: 1)Introducing the performance requirements and challenges related to the design adaptation and low-energy MAC protocol, according to investigate and analyze the existing MAC protocol in WSN;2)Improving the shortcomings of the binary exponential backoff mechanism adopted by RI-MAC,this paper proposes a BAMAC protocols based on adaptive backoff mechanism, and introduce a backoff mechanism based on BPCRB algorithm in it.It identifies wireless communication channel and network traffic conditions according to the change rate of transmission under the success of data transmission and the conflict change rate under the failure of data transmission,so it can improve the adaptability of the backoff mechanism;3)To solve the poor adaptive ability of PW-MAC protocol, this paper designs a new LELP-MAC protocol, the protocol introduces a packet level in node cache queue to describes the network traffic, and increases a retreat mechanism based on Backcast under the mechanism of predictable wake time of nodes, can retransmit data quickly and efficiently when the basis of multiple nodes occurred transmission collision. For the network with real-time load changes, this paper studies and designs the MAC protocol based on two basic properties of adaptive ability and low power consumption. The improved BA-MAC protocol and LELP-MAC protocol are verified by a large number of simulation experiments and they both can be not only better adapt to the network traffic, but also effectively reduce the energy consumption of nodes.
