The infrared and visible image fusion technology, which is widely used in many fields such as military, security, health care, has become a hot research topic presently at home and abroad due to its advantages. As its range of application is wider and wider, requirement for system's miniaturization and portability is higher and higher, meanwhile, higher definition of fusion image is demanded, too. In addition, as the most fusion system currently shows the analog signal after DA conversion, the resolution of the fused image will be reduced, the fusion system are developing towards the direction of the whole-digital output, the system needs to deal with a lot of high speed data. To ensure real-time performance of the system, some proper high speed data interfaces can be adopted. According to the above problems, this paper is dedicated to develop a set of miniaturizing image fusion system owned high frame frequency and digital output based on Camera Link interface.Firstly, considering the requirements for miniaturization and Camera Link protocol, a designing program based on FPGA is proposed. Secondly, several function modules of system is divided and the specific circuit is designed. Board-level signal integrity simulation of some important signal lines such as time-delay, crosstalk, reflection is done based on the rules of high-speed circuit design for layout. Finally, a Laplacian pyramid image fusion algorithm is fulfiled after completing the PCB board, welding and debugging system. The fusion result is proved to be good on the premise of meeting the request for real-time through experiment verification. The fusion image data is displayed through the Camera Link interface. The data transmission rate is tested up to 800Mbit/s, and the frame frequency of 720×576 image can reach 194fps through signal port. The purpose of fully digital output and high frame frequency is achieved based on this system.
