Horace Mann is an outstanding leader of the American public school movement.He advocates free public schools,insists on securing educational opportunities for every child,establishes state-level schools,specializes in the professionalization of teachers,and makes an indelible contribution of education and social progress in the United States.Horace Man has a rich educational thought,but also the actual emphasis on the education reform,his life is dedicated to the cause of American education,known as the "father of American public education."The thesis focuses on the theory of normal education of Horace Mann.There are five main parts: The first part introduces the life and education activities of Horace Mann;The second part explores the background of the formation of Horace Mann’s educational ideas mainly includes political,economic,demographic and educational backgrounds.The third part explores the theoretical origin of the thought of Horace Mann’ normal education thoughts,which is mainly the ideological basis of Protestant republicanism,the influence of Peste’s theory of education and the influence of Prussia’s normal education;The fourth part is the focus of this paper,combing the basic ideas of Horace Mann’s teacher education thoughts,including the status of teachers,training institutions for teacher education and curriculum system for teacher education;The last part is the exposition of the historical position of Horace Mann’s teacher education thoughts.The paper focuses on the twelve annual reports submitted by Horace Manchu during the Massachusetts Board of Education,and draws on the multi-angle interpretation of Horash Mannman’s educational thoughts from domestic and foreign scholars.Man ’s teacher education thought has done systematic sorting and objectified interpretation.
