With the expansion of education and the reduction of the school-age population, new changes have emerged in junior and middle schools in small and medium-sized cities in the central region.A large number of surrounding rural students have begun to enter the cities to study, and the social integration of junior high school students in urban and rural areas has become a sociological issue of concern. The author conducts a one-month field survey in Z school in Yuncheng,Shanxi Province, and collects data through questionnaires, interviews, etc.in the form of questionnaires. He hopes to understand the social integration of Z school students in urban and rural areas, analyze the existing problems and causes, and propose strategies to promote social integration. This article examines the social integration of junior high school students in urban and rural areas of Y school from the perspectives of cultural integration, structural integration and identity. It is found that junior school students in urban and rural areas of Z school have achieved initial integration in cultural integration, but there are still differences in thinking patterns. The degree of structural integration of Z school students in urban and rural schools in Z schools is relatively low,and rural students tend to communicate with rural students. In the class interaction structure, the minority are often marginalized and disadvantaged.Z school students performed better in identity, both parties have greater recognition of urban student identity. The problems existing in the social integration of urban and rural students in Z schools are the "conservative" tendencies that rural students present in interaction, and they tend to build acquaintance social circles; The minority groups are structurally disadvantaged in the class interaction network, they are often marginalized in small groups;rural areas are the common “the other” of urban and rural students, and both urban and rural students have a stereotyped impression of the countryside;social integration between urban and rural areas becomes the integration of subaltern, social integration become the subaltern reproduction;Schools are absent from social integration and only play a role in imparting knowledge. The reasons for these problems include the exclusion of rural students from the system under the household registration system;the political disadvantages of the subaltern make them unable to protect their rights and interests in the reform of education;the differences between boarders and externs have led to isolation between rural students and urban students;Differences between acquaintance society and unfamiliar societies lead to interaction barriers between urban and rural students. In exam-oriented education,“poor schools” only value academic performance and do not have extra energy to focus on students' social integration issues. In order to solve these problems,it is necessary to speed up the reform of the household registration system;pay more attention to education fairness in the education reform, develop good general public schools;organize class or school activities, form student societies, break the closed social circle;increase inter-school exchanges and community interaction, take students out of school, truly engage with the society, and achieve social integration;change students concepts and enhance the autonomy of social integration.
