Spatial cognition is the process and ability of people to cognize the dependence relationship, patterns of change, and their associated positions of the things or phenomena in the environment in which they live. In the cognitive process of geospatial information, the map is the most important way for students to acquire the perception of the real world. With the development of the Internet, the network map came into being, so that the map of the form, function and cognitive way has changed.The development of geography education and the requirement of geography curriculum to map teaching make the network map become a supplementary resource of map teaching. It can not only meet the real-time and diverse data needs of geography teaching. but also has convenient access and many GIS's features and functions. At the same time ,it is more easier and simpler than a professional desktop GIS , for the information geography teaching providing new ideas.Based on the web map teaching under the guidance of spatial cognition theory,this paper compares the development of network map at home and abroad and the research status of network map teaching. It is found that the network map is a new product of geospatial technology for middle school geography learning and teaching.Provide a wealth of resources, it is getting more and more attention in the field of education.Therefore, the network map for middle school geography teaching has its feasibility. By analyzing the four processes of spatial cognitive process, representation process, memory process and thinking process, combined with the function and characteristics of the network map, the spatial cognition model of the network map and the role of the network map in the spatial cognition are proposed. It is found that it is feasible to use the spatial cognition to guide the network map. This paper analyzes the spatial cognition ability of middle school students and the application of map and network map. and finds out that the secondary school has the social environment to carry out the map teaching using the network map, and discusses the principle of the network map in the middle school map teaching and Put forward methods and specific application cases. Spatial teaching based on spatial cognition has a positive effect on students 'spatial cognition process and has a positive effect on the development of students' spatial competence.First,the network map helps to stimulate students' emotional participation; Second, the network map of the dynamic,interactive, rich and helpful to help multi-sensory channel, help Spatial perception;Third, the popularization and application of the network map will help students get more psychological training, so as to gain more experience. Fourth, the network map can reproduce the environmental changes, increase the map readability, as a tool to deepen student memory, but also can become a student learning and research tools.Finally, the use of network maps can be open to the problem of inquiry and practical activities, training students' spatial thinking ability.
