The diversity of contemporary jewelry art expressions makes "How to experience art works?”To become the contemporary jewelry itself questioning.The experience of 'in character' in fictional stories provides a way to understand artistic expression.The prototype of this thesis is the form of Dejiang Nuotang opera props advocating fabrication and imagination of the audience.The argument of props still promoting the imagination of the works of art of viewers with their own direct and inductive material characteristics while not being on the basis of role of the symbolic meaning in the dramatic narration is put forward according to the representation of the sound produced by the props,the color produced and the combination with human bodies.And then the question follows:could jewelry promote fabrication and imagination in the same way like the props of Nuotang opera?This thesis starts with contemporary situation of jewelry,and then provides reasons for the study of "props and fiction" with jewelry participating in new artistic practice to be a part of contemporary art filed and the influence of its own historical tradition on artistic expression.After getting the definition of props through checking and combing the significance and reputation of props,put forward that the basic props for Nuotang opera could not fully represent their signifier on material characteristics according to the arbitrariness between the signifier(image)and the signified(meaning).Then get to the key discussion that props could get artistic expressions by their direct and inductive material characteristics and the discussion of contemporary jewelry.Then discuss about how elements of jewelry promote the fabrication and imagination of viewers as props on the basis of the three ways which are separately are jewelry from the making process,the three types of jewelry under the situation of preservation and the combination of jewelry and human bodies.The opinions of this thesis are inspired and supported by the "pretend play" aesthetics of Kendall L.Walton,the critique from Michael Freed to minimalism,the presentation of jewelry to poetic forms,the visual perception theory of Arnheim and the academic theories of Merleau-Ponty about the relation between physical behaviors and the perceived objects.At last,make a conclusion about the significance of jewelry promoting fabrication and imagination as props and turn the discussed result about the relation of props and fiction to the practice of the research result of this thesis.
