Historical and cultural blocks are the product of a city which is forming and developing,the epitome of a city’s culture.It is good that protecting these blocks is to retain the urban context and improve the cultural taste of the city.Because the ancient city of Changshu is relatively well preserved and each functional division is clearly divided in the urban area,there is Nanjing Tang historical and cultural block which mainly undertakes the living function.It shows not only the overall look of the residential buildings in the period of the Ming and Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China truly,but also the whole feature which twelve cultural relic protection units are notable former residences.There are both physical cultural resources and immaterial cultural resources in the rich cultural resources of Nanjing Tang historical and cultural block,such as,residential buildings represented by notable former residences,old wells as environmental components,Pingtan art and traditional crafts which still exert vitality.As the largest essential feature of the block,the number of notable former residences is numerous.In these notable former residences,Weng’s former residence which is preserved in the form of the Memorial Hall of Weng Tonghe is the most representative.Weng’s former residence is conveying Weng’s family of scholar culture.Nanjing Tang historical and cultural block is very special,so it is necessary and important to protect and use it.However,Changshu local government lacks concept and measures of cultural relics,so there are many problems in the protection and utilization of the block.In response to these conditions,the corresponding measures of protection and utilization are put forward in this paper to support that Nanjing Tang historical and cultural block can carry on the work of protection and utilization.
