Special Study On The Issue Of The Capital Of The Western Zhou Dynasty

The Western Zhou dynasty has an important place in the development of our country.There are numerous capitals of this dynasty and they change along with migration.The Western Zhou dynasty and its capitals has the essential role in the history of our country,so its worth to do some research on it.Studying on the restoration of the layout of the ancient capitals is an important part of studies on the geography of historic capitals.It is an important access to explore the original appearance of ancient capitals,and the foundation of understanding the development of the capitals or the sites.This essay focus on the location,the selection and the construction of the capitals and it is going to make a conclusion in respect of the layout and the morphology of the capitals by analyzing the historical documents,the bronze shields and the archaeological data.This essay is divided into four chapters.The first chapter will inspect the location of some capitals,on the basis of combing the changes of the capitals in the pre-Zhou and Western Zhou dynasty ’s capitals.There are two parts in the first chapter.One part is to do a research on the capitals whose nature is clear but the location is being disputed such as Bin(豳)and Luoyi(洛邑);the other part will explain the nature and the location of some places such as Pangjing((?)京),Zhou(周),Zheng(郑)andCheng(程)which are likely to be capitals of pre-Zhou or Western Zhou dynasty.The second chapter,on the basis of the knowledge of some capitals’ location,this chapter is tend to study the selection and the construction of the capitals such as Bin(豳),Qiyi(岐邑),Fengyi(丰邑),Haojing(镐京)and Luoyi(洛邑)which mainly including the background and the principles of the capitals’ selection,the process of the selection and the construction.what’s more,is to make a conclusion of the capitals’ plan and the construction process.The third chapter is to discuss the layout and the morphology of some capitals of pre-Zhou or Western Zhou dynasty such as Qiyi(岐邑),Fengyi(丰邑),Haojing(镐京)and Luoyi(洛邑)by analyzing the distribution of the palaces,ancestral temples,tombs and handicraft workshops.What’s more,the theory that conveyed by Kaogongji can be testified by way of the study of the layout and the morphology of the Western Zhou dynasty’s capitals.Besides,the ancient capital’s spatial structure theory that put forward by Mr.Yang Kuan will be testified by way of the study of Luoyi’s(洛邑)layout and the morphology.The last chapter is the conclusion part.This chapter will point out the problems solved in this essay and some of the problems to be solved.There are several innovative points in this essay.The Scholars mainly focus on the location of some capitals,but tend to ignore the natural geographical environment of the capitals when they inspect the selection and the construction of the capitals.Whats more,when studying on the layout and the morphology of some capitals they usually tend to make a summary only by analyzing the historical documents such as Kaogongji instead of the integrated use of the historical documents,the bronze inscriptions and the archaeological data.While this essay will do some research of some problems such as the location,the selection,the construction,the layout and the morphology of some capitals by comprehensively using the historical documents,the bronze shields and the archaeological data.Finally,a research on the layout and the morphology of some capitals through archaeological materials will be done.
