An Empirical Study Of The Effects Of Melody Patterns On Emotions

External environmental factors can easily affect the individual emotions,and music as a special form of artistic expression,can watch the heart,triggering a strong emotional experience.Melody,interval,rhythm,musical form,mode and tonality,harmony,etc.are all the elements of the musical form,the melody is the most essential part of the music.Under the background of modern education reform,With the continuous improvement of the level of education,people pay more and more attention to the psychological health of students in the learning process.How to make the most effective use of the educational function of music,how to promote the college students' psychological health and growth through the way of music appreciation,has become a hot issue in the community.Music therapy has been paid more and more attention in today's society.What kind of emotion can be produced by different music melody? What kind of melody shape can better regulate and relieve the negative emotions? In order to solve the above problems,this paper makes an empirical study on the effects of different melody contours on emotion by means of literature search,questionnaire,interview and other research methods.In Experiment 1,a single factor completely randomized experimental design was used to investigate whether melodic contour material has experimental value.On the other hand,it also do the reliability analysis of the effect of melodic material.The independent variable is the melodic contour,a total of 6 contours,they are: ascending step melodic contour;descending step melodic contour;ascending plunge melodic contour;descending plunge melodic contour;broken-line model melodic contour;straight-line model melodic contour.the material we chosed from experiment 1 are the highest respectively induced by different types of emotions,are used into experiment 2as research materialsTherefore,we obtain 15 experimental materials from 6 different melodic contours.In Experiment 1,ascending plunge melody contour and broken-line model melodic contour were induced by 165 non music professional backgroundstudents positive emotional reaction;descending melodic contour on students were better in negative emotional reaction,straight-line model melodic contour are still need more improve in experiment 2.Experiment 2 used 6 melody contour:(ascending step;descending step;ascending plunge;descending plunge;broken-line model;straight-line model)* 2(background:music and non-Music)mixed design,to explore the influence of different materials on emotional melodic contour,and different melody contour influence on mood and whether subjects have no professional learning background music.The results show that the ascending contour to the music on the individual's positive emotion induced significant effect,has obvious positive emotional orientation;broken-line model melodic contour can induce subjects to a certain degree of positive emotional experience;and straight-line model melodic contour and descending contour can induce subjects to a certain degree of negative emotional experience.The results also show that there is a significant difference between music majors and non-Music Majors in the emotional arousal.For the ascending melodic contour,negative emotion for non-music background students of subjects of arousal were higher than the music background students,and descending melodic contour are on the contrary.In addition,for the emotional evoked,there is a certain degree of music education experience students,and its positive emotional evoked stronger than negative emotions evoked.The reason may be that,for those who have had the experience of music education,it is better able to understand the music information.Thus,this paper draws the following conclusions:(1)broken-line model melodic contour and the ascending contour to be able to induce the individual to be more positive mood,causes the human to have the positive emotion perception;(2)straight-line model melodic contour and the descending contour to be able to induce the individual to have the stronger negative emotion,causes the human to have the negative emotion perception;(3)the individuals who has music major and without music majors,the ascending contour can caused positive emotion are stronger than broken-line model melodic contour(4)subjects without music professional background,negative emotions caused by the ascending contour are stronger than straight-line model melodic contour,on the other hand,there is no difference in negative emotions caused by ascending contour and straight-line model melodic contour for subjects with music background.(5)there is a certain degree of music education experience of the individual's perception of music emotional sensitivity are higher than those without music education experience.
