As a special form of art, music has its own unique charm. Comparing to other forms of art, such as poem、painting, music can directly act on the inner hearts of human. There is no need for individuals to conduct the perceptual modeling, but just to sense it directly. There is no doubt that music has an influence on our emotions. Music is composed of numerous factors. Melody is one of the most important factors in music. What relations does it have to the producing of individual emotions? Whether pitch interval, tonality, outline, rhythm that are important parts of melody can make individuals produce various emotional experiences?In terms of above questions, the essay designs three experiments. Experiment 1 is to explore the effects of melody tonality to emotional responses. Experiment 2 is to explore the effects of melody harmony to emotional responses. Experiment 3 is to explore the effects of melody outline to emotional responses. The three experiments both use Self-Assessment Manikin mood scale as measure tools of tested emotions. SAM scale measure method is a method that is rapid and can quantize subjective emotional states. In addition, it is a non-verbal graphical assessment technique.The result of experiment 1 indicates that no matter on the arousal or enjoyment, changing tonality has no significant effect on individuals.The result of experiment 2 indicates that in contrast to the time when testers are listening to the monophy melody, the arousal of testers who are listening to the melody added into harmony is more high. When it comes to enjoyment, the result indicates that there exists significant differences.The result of experiment 3 indicates that there is no significant effect of the melody outline trend to tested emotional arousal. However, the melody outline which is upwards can trigger the pleasant mental experience of tested persons.
