The three elementary factors of a language are phonetics,vocabulary and grammar.Vocabulary is the building material of a language.Without vocabulary,we can't pass information and communicate with others.So vocabulary teaching plays an important role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Teaching material is the basic of teaching and it is related in the result of teaching.And the vocabulary selection of the textbook largely reflects the quality of the teaching material.So we need to analyze the vocabulary.The paper takes the two famous Chinese materials with high usage rate Developing Chinese(Elementary Comprehensive Course)and Boya Chinese(Elementary)as the research objects.By establishing a corpus of the text,we make a contrastive study of the quantitative characters of the two Chinese materials.At the same time,we make a comparison between the text vocabulary and The Graded Chinese Syllables,Characters and Words for the Application of Teaching Chinese to the Speakers of Other Languages.Then we compare the two materials in vocabulary selection and organization and give our advice.We hope to help the students and teachers with their choosing materials and provide something available in vocabulary for the compilation of teaching materials in the future.
