New Standard Chinese is a set of new generation teaching material which was published by Peking University Press in 2005.And the intermediate level textbook is for Chinese learners who already mastered the use of vocabularies and grammars of HSK level 1 to 3,and this set is also suitable for Chinese self-learners.New Standard Chinese has the advantages of wide usage,high impact and distinction,but until now there is few study on it.This thesis is aimed to offer some proposal on the usage of textbooks and textbook compilation by means of analyzing New Standard Chinese,then summarizing its characteristics and pointing out the weaknesses.The main content of this thesis is the analysis of New Standard Chinese,using the method of statistic analysis to analyze the five aspects of the textbook:words,language point,text,grammar,practice and translation.Then in allusion to the deficiency,the writer raises some revised suggestion.Based on the analysis,the writer finds the following points:the words and language points are a little difficult for middle-lever learners,so that the texts are kind of suitable for intermediate level learners,the topics of the texts are close to life,the most topics of the Volume One are about social interaction and the Volume Two adds lots of folk culture,but the content of these texts is somewhat obsolete.In the practice,the type and quantity are both insufficient.The translation in the textbook has some errors like inaccuracy,spelling mistake,errors about culture and so on,that needs more meticulous.
