Most of the students in the Confucius Institute in Japan are aged people.Older Chinese learners are different from young Chinese learners,and they should be differentiated in teaching.At present,according to the existing domestic and foreign literature on Chinese teaching,Chinese teaching research for the elderly people is less.Therefore,this paper takes the Confucius Institute of Kansai University of Foreign Languages in Japan as an example to analyze the current situation and learning characteristics of Japanese elderly students through the practice of collecting amount of information about Chinese teaching of the elderly in Japan.Referring to the teaching situation in the Confucius Institute at Kansai University of Foreign Languages and basing on teaching content,methods and textbooks to find out the problems in the teaching of the elderly in Japan,also to think and conclude the existing problems then put forward suggestions.This paper firstly introduces the school profile of Kansai Foreign Language University in Japan.Furthermore,analyzes the local elderly Chinese learning status from the aspects of learning methods,learning objectives and learning requirements.Then based on the teacher situation,curriculum setting,curriculum type,textbooks,teaching content,and teaching methods of these six aspects to make an analysis of the Chinese Language Teaching of the Elderly in Confucius Institute at Kansai University for Foreign Studies.The result presents that the learning purpose and requirement of Japanese elderly students is different.The curriculum type is comprehensive and size of class is small.Secondly,based on the case study of Chinese language teaching of the elderly in Confucius Institute of Kansai University of Foreign Studies,this paper analyzes the existing problems in the actual Chinese teaching of the elderly in Japan.In the aspect of teaching content,teaching via using Chinese characters as a unit is not conducive and leads students fail in getting the meaning;teachers do not clearly realize the learning characteristics and requirement of the Japanese elderly people,so content can not meet the needs of learners.As for the teaching method,the teaching activity in the classroom is too complicated,which negatively influences the elderly people's enthusiasm on learning and places students in a passive position;a large number of students using the mother tongue during learning,that is not conducive for the purpose of language learning;in the aspect of textbooks,some definitions of vocabulary in textbooks is not accurate enough,the knowledge system is not strong,example sentences are too difficult,new words and sentences lack short notes.Finally,to do a simple analysis on the learning characteristics of the Japanese elderly people,the result shows that: their ability of reading and writing is better than listening and speaking;poor memory,real-time response capability is weak;good at reciting cooperation but weak on innovative applications;learning attitude is serious.Therefore I put forward some suggestions for Chinese language teaching for the elderly in Japan.In addition,comments and suggestions have been given on the specific issues raised in the previous chapter.In the teaching methods,teachers should use simple and traditional methods,rational,repeated,repeated explanation;In the aspect of teaching contents,teachers should give priority to practice as well as the breadth and depth;in teaching methods,teachers ought to use simple,traditional methods to display teaching content in a rational explanation,repeatedly;in the use of teaching materials,to replace example sentences appropriately and adjust the sequence of knowledge points,strengthen the annotation.
