Procrastination refers to the voluntary delay of an intended and necessary actions or tasks, despite expecting potential negative consequences that outweigh the positive consequences of the delay. It is accompanied by subjective discomfort or other negative consequences. It is generally considered as an impact on mental health. Variety of studies have shown the external influences of procrastination include parenting style, task characteristics, etc.; the internal influences are age, personality and self-hinder. Personality is one of the most important influences.Perfectionism is defined as a personality trait that always pursuit of flawlessness on details. Studies have shown that perfectionism can affect the procrastination directly. Rumination is considered a negative cognitive styles that addicted in compulsively thoughts on negative events, or its causes and consequences. Some researchers think self-reflective has positive consequences on mental health. Studies have shown that rumination can influence procrastination, and perfectionism is closely related to rumination. But there are few studies have explored the role of rumination between perfectionism and procrastination.The current study use general procrastination scale, multiple perfectionism scale and rumination response scale to investigate grade 1,2 of senior high school students. This study intended to reveal the features of perfectionism, rumination and procrastination in senior high school student, and explore the relationships of perfectionism, rumination and procrastination, especially the role of rumination in the relationship between perfectionism and procrastination.The results as following:(1)There is no significant gender differences in procrastination; but the grade differences in procrastination is significant.(2)There is no significant gender differences in perfectionism; but the grade differences is significant in the dimension of perfectionism:Personal Standard and Organization.(3)There is significant gender and grade differences in rumination. In contrary to girls, boys are tend to think as self-reflective way, a positive dimension of rumination.(4)Significant negative correlation was found between the dimension of perfectionism:PS,O and procrastination. The correlation between the dimension of rumination:Symptom Rumination and Organization was negative. The correlation between the dimension of rumination:Self-reflective and procrastination is not significant. The correlation between other dimensions of these three variables are positive.(5)Perfectionism can affect procrastination directly. In addition, perfectionism can affect procrastination through rumination. Positive perfectionism can opposite predict procrastination. Negative perfectionism can predict procrastination directly. In addition, negative perfectionism can predict procrastination through rumination.Based on the previous analysis and discussion, the main conclusions as following:(1)Lower grade students work more organized and set higher personal standards than higher grade. The latter thoughts more compulsive, and may be more likely to delay.(2) In contrary to girls, boys are tend to think as self-reflective way, a positive dimension of rumination.(3) The individuals with high negative perfectionism tendencies and rumination level are more likely to delay. Rumination played a mediating role between perfectionism and procrastination.
