Objective:Investigate the expression of CD44 and CD133 in colon carcinoma tissue and its liver metastasis tissue by immunohistochemistry, and discuss the clinical implications. Methods:Collected 80 clinical liver tissue cases and associated data including 50 colon carcinoma liver metastasis cases,20 non-metastasis in liver cases and 10 normal liver cases.Separately designed normal liver tissue as control group, colon carcinoma liver metastasis tissue as metastasis group and liver tissue without the metastasis from colon cancer as non-metastasis group.Tested the expression of CD44 and CD133 in the 3 groups with immunohistochemistry, marked positive indicators in sample tissue and the results was analyzed by the statistics software SPSS 20.0.Took the analysis on the relationship with patients' age and gender that CD44 and CD133 express in 2 organs' tumor from the same patient.Results:1.Cases of CD44 and CD133 positive expression are 51 and 57 respectively in the liver tissue from 70 colon cancer patients, and rate of positive expression are higher than normal liver tissue.the results reach the statistical significance(P<0.05).2.In the liver tissue of colon cancer liver metastasis, the positive expression rate of CD44 and CD133 are 82.0 and 78.0 separately, and it shows the positive expression rate of colon cancer liver metastasis is higher than non-metastasis liver tissues by the comparing between the 2 groups of tissues(P<0.05).3.In 50 cases of colon cancer liver metastasis, the patients' age under 60 that the positive expression of CD44 and CD133 are 28 and 20 respectively and the age beyond 60 are 4 and 6 cases.CD44 positive expression in different gender: 18 males and 9 females, and CD133 :17 males and 6 females. The results doesn't reach the statistical significance(P>0.05).Conclusions:The expression of CD44 and CD133 in the liver tissue from colon cancer liver metastasis cases are higher than normal liver tissue and non-metastasis cases, and the expression difference has no association with age and gender.
