Objective:Study the efficacy of moxibustion used for rats' myositis ossificans trauma caused by achilles tendon being cut completely and the impact on TGF-?1. Explore the control mechanisms of moxibustion to prevent the model of such myositis ossificans trauma. Methods:There were 85 rats with myositis ossificans trauma model caused by achilles tendon being cut. They were randomly divided into control group, dummy moxibustion group and moxibustion group, being operated to accordingly. I observed the general condition of the rats and their achilles tendon, imaging and pathology to determine efficacy. I also used immunohistochemistry to exame TGF-?1. To analyze the results, I used SPSS 21.0, to compare the t test of two independent samples, Ridit to check imaging data, single factor variance analysis for comparison within the group. Results:From the observation, I can see for both dummy moxibustion group and moxibustion group, the achilles tendon got darker and harder, less soft and elastic. Compared to control group, the circumference of achilles tendon in other two groups differs in a way that in dummy moxibustion group, after 6weeks, it got thicker(P < 0.05). Imaging and ossification results showed that there were significant differences between experimental group and control group. In the week of 4,6 and 8, ossification rate in moxibustion group is much lower than that in the dummy one(P < 0.05). In the week of 10, even though the ossification rates were equal, the degree of those in moxibustion group was much lower. Pathological examination showed that there was significant difference between experimental group and control group too. In different time point, the number of osteoblast formed in moxibustion group was much lower than that in the dummy one. Immunohistochemistry results differed too. The TGF-?1 of moxibustion group was lower that that of the dummy one.Conclusion:1. Moxibustion prevents myositis ossificans trauma, slows down and reduces ossification; 2. TGF- ? 1 has its own way expressing myositis ossificans trauma, which can be controlled by moxibustion; 3. Moxibustion's prevention of myositis ossificans trauma could be the expression of decreasing signal factors as TGF-?1.
