Zen started from India. It later came to China and became a sect of Buddhism, absorbing from the China's Taoism and Confucianism.Since then,Zenist ideas have been a source of enlightenment for both life and work.Based on the theories of Daisetz Suzuki, and incorporating the conclusions and thoughts from other Zen researchers, this article expresses the writer's Zenist space design concepts on Unconsciousness,Intuition and Sunyata.Taking Maopeng Temple as an example, this article analyzes the Zenist characteristics.Problems hidden in the space designing of the temple are pointed out and suggestions are given for improvements.Chapter One explains the background and meanings of this research. The framework of the research is given out by a clear definition on the Zen concept,as well as the objects, contents and methods of the research.Chapter Two elaborates on the writer's Zenist Space design concept, which is founded on Suzuki 's Zenist ideas.First, the history of Zen Buddhism in Japan is explained, followed by the development of Buddhism during the Meiji Restoration Period. An introduction on Suzuki 's book Zen Buddhism&Psychoanalysis is given, which serves as the basis of the writer's Zenist space research.Chapter Three explains the writer's "re-understanding" on the Zenist concepts of Unconsciousness,Intuition, and Sunyata, and the application of Zenist elements in space designing.Chapter Four tries to pin down the Zenist characteristics of Maopeng Temple on Unconsciousness,Intuition, and Sunyata. Then it goes deeper to find the insufficiencies in its space designing,as well as ways for improvements.Chapter Five explores more examples on Zenist space designing. The research on Zenist spaces is both sensational and rational at the same time.In this essay, the writer explains his design concepts, which find its roots in Suzuki 's Zenist theories, and pins down the Zenist characteristics of Unconsciousness,Intuition, and Sunyata in real case studies,in the hope to further enrich the Zenist space researches as well as to complete more design projects under the guidance of these researches.
