Stemming from Expressionism in Occidental aesthetics, this thesis aimed at finding out aesthetical reason to kinds of inclinations in Occidental architecture design area, such as pluralistic, pioneering, anti-rational. The first chapter emphasized on the view of narrow sense and broad sense of Expressionism. And we abstract two crucial notions from Expressionism, namely intuition and will. With these two notions, we can depict the whole Expressionism. Chapter two mainly deal with how did Expressionism exert influence on modern art and architecture. The two ideas, intuition and will, have still been engaged in analyzing modern art after Impressionism and architecture in early twentieth century. Based on the former two chapters, we can reach a conclusion in chapter three: it is "Expression" that led to varies types of schools in contemporary architecture. In the end, the thesis point out the value and future of Expressionism to domestic architecture development nowadays.
